Wild Tavern

Last Saturday’s announcement of a second lockdown resulted in a manic rush of dinner reservations, with everyone desperate to be out on the town enjoying themselves before a whole month cooped up at home. We were therefore very lucky to be able to get a table at Wild Tavern on Tuesday, although we could only be squeezed in at 6pm which is slightly earlier than we would have chosen. With it getting dark so early now and with everyone trying to make the most of an evening before 10pm, the atmosphere was lively from the moment we arrived.

The menu is divine with exquisite pasta, seafood and meat options. While we decided on our order we enjoyed fantastic focaccia bread with wonderful olive oil. The waiters know their menu inside out and helped us to eventually decide on a starter of oysters and scallops to share. The oysters were served with a strawberry sauce which complimented them so well, ringing the changes from the usual chilli and lemon. The scallops were incredibly tasty too – cooked to perfection and served with mushrooms and celeriac puree.

For our main course we decided to share steak (cooked to medium-rare) with Béarnaise sauce and a side of chips and broccoli. Perhaps one of the most delicious steaks I’ve ever had; it was tender and loaded with flavour. Our waiter and wine expert helped us to pair a Rioja (wonderful Spanish wine) with our dinner.

To complete such a heavenly gastronomic experience with something sweet we shared a tiramisu. As it was only around 8pm when we finished, we also enjoyed a few drinks at the bar before heading home.

Wild Tavern is very special and definitely a favourite. I hope they are able to open their doors again soon!
